TRS Turns 20
There’s nothing like a significant milestone to give you pause for thought, and the 20th birthday of TRS is the perfect moment to reflect on our journey so far, and where we’re headed.
I started this business with one simple goal in mind, to represent the interests of tenants independently and honestly in an increasingly compromised commercial property market.
In 2001, with a decade of experience in international and national commercial leasing, I realised I wanted to build a business that was completely independent and conflict-free, representing the interests of tenants, from small businesses to large, partnering with them on their business journeys.
From finding great space, to negotiating leases, planning and fitout, the depth of experience we have developed over the last 20 years means we’re able to advise our clients not only on their current needs, but to plan for their futures. We’re also experienced in helping clients when things don’t go as planned, assisting with challenges like right-sizing, lease renegotiations or surrenders to meet changing business needs.
Whatever the circumstances, finding a space that’s appropriate for your business involves complex negotiations, navigating practical and contractual legalities, as well as ensuring integrity. Our aim, by putting our client needs at the centre of everything we do, is to be lawyer, lobbyist and power broker rolled into one. We do this by:
- Focusing on workplace flexibility and finding solutions that are fit for purpose – and revisiting often to make sure your space (and contract) are right for you.
- Negotiating with complete transparency – we have never taken commissions or referrals from the property industry, which means we are not bound to anyone other than our clients.
- Acting with integrity from start to finish, and beyond. The quality of our relationships with clients means we’re often engaged with them long after contracts are signed.
We operate from a place of pure independence. Our business is separate from landlords and their agents, to ensure there is absolutely no conflict of interest. Probity is at the heart of our business.
We also know the market better than anyone else, and by that we mean the whole market, not just the space that’s owned and managed by one or two property companies. We have the experience to see great opportunities – and risks – for our clients we pride ourselves on being a level head and a safe pair of hands.
Put simply, our clients remain at the heart of everything we do. It starts with a great relationship, which means truly getting under the skin of our clients’ business, not just their tenancy needs.
It means we can provide the perfect combination of services and advice at the right time.
It also means we’re constantly thinking about our clients, past and present, many of whom continue to support and recommend us long after the ink has dried on the dotted line.
2020 was a year like no other, with ups and downs for everyone irrespective of sector, industry or business interest. Whilst it has undoubtedly changed the way we consider and plan the working environment for the future, we’re beginning to see green shoots in CBDs across the country, accompanied by optimism and opportunity.
My ambition for the future of TRS is to stay true to our roots. Independence, integrity and putting our clients at the centre of everything we do. I’m excited about the next 20 years as we turn the corner on Covid, and doing more of what we do best – living every day for the success of our clients.
